It was Cheng Beng on 1st April (or 2nd April?), and I went down to Muar with my family to pray at the temple. But this post is not about Cheng Beng but about my trip down south as I took the 1.30 pm bus from Muar to Singapore on the same day itself.
This time, I visited my good friend May Li. She invited me over the weekend (or maybe I invited myself), and I also thought I could get some shoes at the same time. The journey was 5 hours since the bus took the old route and pass through JB town picking & dropping a few passengers on the way. Nevertheless I finally made it to her apartment at 6.30 pm in Dover. Taking a quick shower, we were on our way to Clarke Quay for dinner and drinks.
Singapore is ever-changing. Everytime I'm down here, there's always something new. I learnt that you can use credit cards to pay for taxi fares, and that MacDs accepted the new EZ-Link cards that previously replaced the Fare cards used about 3-4 years back. Its like our Touch-N-Go card but one that can be used in a lot of places from public transport, to fast food joints & retail outlets.
So I treated my good friend to a dinner at Hot Stones, and later met up with her friends. We went to the former Westin hotel (now known as Swissotel), and head up to the 70th floor. There is a place called Equinox which is very happening. The music was up to date, the crowd was great, and the drinks were quite good. Had myself an Equinox Blue, and Gentle Testicals (it's spelled that way in the menu), and we danced a bit as well.
Now back when I was studying in NUS, there were no buses after midnight. However, nowadays there are night buses that ply along the major roads. Sure its SGD 3, but its still cheaper than the cab that charges 50% more. Must have slept like a pig coz I only woke up the next day at 2 pm.
On Sunday (after waking up at 2), we went to Queen's Way Shopping Complex to look for shoes. Got myself a pair of working shoes, and a pair of Vans. The working shoes were cheap costing SGD 40 but the Vans were quite expensive at SGD 79.90 though I don't know if that would be still cheaper than in Malaysia. Anyway I like that shoes very much so I bought it anyway.
Everytime I'm in Singapore, I would also stop by Sim Lim Square. I found an outlet that had a moving out sale so I finally bought Sid Meier's Civilization IV with its strategy guide at 50% off. Things are really cheap for Singaporeans here. That's the advantage of working in a developed nation I guess.
All in all it was a fruitful trip, and as I rode the bus home, and post this blog, I remind myself to wish my good friend, May Li - Happy Birthday.
